On To The Good Stuff !
The Fishing Report For This Week Has Been Much Improved Depending On Where You’ve Been Fishing. On The North End, The Crappie Are Still Spawning In Some Areas But Some Are Nearing The End Of The Spawning Cycle, You Can Tell Because A Lot Of Males Are Being Caught. After The Females Crappie Lays Their Eggs, Typically The Males Will Guard The Nest. Pencil Weeds And Vegetation Seem To Be Holding Alot Of Fish Which Is A PARADISE For Those Of Us Who Love To Single Pole-Single Jig Fish. The Area To Focus On Seems To Be The West Wall Stretching From The Pass At Kings Bar All The Way Around To Buckhead Ridge And Down To Indian Prairie And Little Grassy To The Left Of The Mouth Of The River Fishing In 2-3 Feet Of Water Using Bright Pinks And Greens.
The River Continues To Produce Fish, However Since The Spawn Is Heavy, You Will Have To Find Those Suspended Crappie That Are In Search Of Food. Look For Schools Of Bait And You’ll Fish The Crappie. The Report In The River Seems To Be More Productive With Minnows.
The South Side Of The Lake Has Been A Challenge In Open Waters However The Same Story As The North As Far As Vegetation. Find Some Mats Or Lilly Pads And Dip Your Jig In And Wait For That THUMP.
The Bank Fishing As Been STELLAR. They Are Still Moving Forward With Their Plans To Lower The Lake So The Spillways At Canal Point And Port Mayaca Have Been Open. Crappie LOVE Running Water, So If You Don’t Have A Boat Don’t Be Discouraged! There’s Hope! Casting With A Bobber And Jigs Is A Very Beneficial Tool To Use From The Bank To Keep Your Jig In The Strike Zone.
