Good afternoon folks. Thank you all for visiting the page and support the Lake Okeechobee Crappie Club. A fishing report will be posted here one a week with a synopsis of crappie reports from around the lake from weekend anglers all the way to guide to help you figure out and plan for your next trips. We won’t be giving out specific spots, however you will have what you need in order to find them. Thank you!
Check Out The Jiganomics Store and the video page with some familiar faces.
The Report
The fishing has been pretty consist early in the morning as the sun is rising, the larger females are feeding early jigging pencil weeds, cattails and madien cane fishing 2-4 foot deep. The weather has been not ideal but manageable with wind gusts reported as high as 23 mph and temperatures down in the 50’s but heating up as the day continued into the 70s. As the sun comes out more and the fish are seeking shade, bigger males are being being out the pads and shallower water. Be ready to set the hook quick as most of the time the males are more of a reaction bite. Fish the open areas of the vegetation to get the bigger females that may be lurking out feeding.
Minnow fishing has also been producing fish off the drop off going from 5-6 down to 9-10 feet in the rims canals. If you can park your boat safely and anchor/powerpole down near the bank and fish off the opposite side, generally your rods will reach right over that sweet spot on the slope where those big girl come up from the deep up the shallow, especially in the evenig time. And of course you can always catch them suspended while trollnig in deeper water.
As far as jig colors, historically white, pink, and brighter colors seem to work best depending on water clarity and amount of sun we have of course. Take time to learn the water and take note of what vegetation you are consistently catching fish in and start to recognize pattern.
