The Report
The fishing has defiently heated up over the past week, however we can’t say the same about the temperature. We got some pretty lower numbers as far as cold and high numbers with the wind. But nonetheless, the specks were chewing. The early morning is key to getting those fish feeding from the night into the sunrise, jigging outside the grass lines early on is a great way to get fish in the boat quick. Maiden cane and pencil reed seem to be the hot spot for big females. Remember to fishing the open areas between the grass where the bigger specks seem to roam, the males usually guard the “nest” deeper in the cover. As the sun comes out more they are hugging closer to grass but still there. Don’t give up when the bite slows down, take a step back and think about what changed. “The sun came out, what does that do to the fish?” “The wind picked up, do the fish was get beat up by the moving brush/grass?’ etc.
There have been a few report of fish starting to move in futher in the river around 12-14 ft with minnows and jigs/ Minnow fishing the dropoffs still produce fishing early in the morning and sporadically throughout the day and picking up as the evening approaches. As the weather continues to change, make note of what the fish are doing on specific days so you can begin to make a mental note when you get out on the water.Be sure to support our local businesses and companies. Thank you.
